A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Homewood on Sunday night, where a 24-year-old woman, identified as Precious Johnson, was fatally shot shortly after giving birth at the Women’s Center of Brookwood Hospital.
According to WVTM 13, citing the coroner’s office, Johnson was shot multiple times by her husband, 19-year-old Kynath Terry Jr. Authorities believe the suspect later turned the gun on himself.
In a statement released on Monday, March 2, 2026, the Homewood Police Department said officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 9:25 p.m. on Sunday at the Women’s Center of Brookwood Hospital in Homewood, Alabama.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the female victim was a patient at the hospital at the time of the shooting. Police also stated that no other individuals were injured during the incident.
Preliminary findings from the Homewood Police Department indicate that the shooting appears to be a domestic-related murder-suicide. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
“Preliminary investigation by Homewood Police leads investigators to believe that the incident is an apparent murder-suicide and is domestic in nature,” the department said in its statement.
Speaking to reporters at WVTM, the suspect’s mother alleged that the couple had been experiencing marital difficulties. She claimed that Johnson had requested that Terry’s family not be present at the hospital during the birth of the child.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the reported family dispute directly contributed to the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
